The Ellesmere Gun Club will hold its clay bird championship match to-morrow afternoon.
On Wednesday evening of next week, the annual meeting of workers and all interested in the Ellesmere Chrysanthemum Show will be held in the Methodist Church Hall, Leeston.
Thursday, December 1, is the date chosen for the annual flower show of the Leeston Presbyterian Church. The schedule has been printed and copies are toeing distributed by the secretary, Mr E. Houston. A point that intending exhibitors should note is that entries will close on Tuesday, November 29, instead of on the evening before the show as' in the past. Many trophies and other special prizes are offered.
With regard to the Stephens shield for school work at the Ellesmere Show, it should be mentioned that the Leeston School was not a competitor for the trophy, the headmaster being of the opinion that the size of the school gave it too great an advantage when competing with the smaller schools. It has been suggested to the A. and P. Association that the competition should be restricted to the smaller schools.
The Main Highways Board has accepted the tender of British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd., for the paving of the Sockburn-Southbridge highway from Springston to Doyleston and from the Leeston town boundary to the boundary of the Southbridge town district, a total distance of log miles. The work is to be completed within a year. It is likely that an arrangement will be made by the Southbridge Town Board to have its section of the highway paved eh the completion of the larger contract.
