SPRINGSTON SOUTH

The Hall Committee's weekly socials continue to be well patronised. The prizes at the last social were won by Mrs J. Blakemore, Mrs T. Hamilton, Mrs W. Matthews and Miss Riordan, Messrs Baker, R. Tyson, L. Glendinning and E. H. Rowell. Monte Carlos were won by Miss Sylvia Kimber and -Mr Bert Pitcairn, Miss Kathleen Davis and Mr D. Ryan. Dance music was supplied by Mrs P. Riordan and Miss Molly Riordan.

The monthly meeting of the Springston South Ladies' Wesley Guild was held at Mrs T. Greaves's residence on Thursday afternoon. Owing to the absence of the president, Mrs E. J. Harris, Mrs S. Bray presided-over a small attendance. A sewing competition, judged by Mrs E. H. Rowell, was won by Mrs C. Woods, who also won a guessing competition. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Greaves for the use of her home. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses.

The Wakaipa Basketball Club held a dance in the Springston South Hall. Owing to the boisterous weather there was not a large attendance. Excellent music was supplied by Fred Smith's Orchestra, extras being played by Miss M. Riordan and Mr Fred Smith. Mr C. Harris was M.C. A competition was won by Mr W. Musson. Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr and Mrs C. J. Woods and W R. Dixon and partner. Among the ladies present were: Mesdames Judson (Cust), A. R. Powell, M. Fletcher, C. J. Woods, J. T. Moore, C. N. Powell, Misses Noel Bates (Christchurch), Anice Musson, Rachel Duff, Freda Mcßean, Olive Douglas, Grace Rowell, Gwen Roberts, Thecla Riordan, Joyce Moore, Kathleen Davis, Marjorie Davis, Molly Riordan, Elaine Bailey, Muriel Mounce, Phyllis Daimler, Margaret Moore, J. Wright, Una Parrett, E. P. Parrett, E. H. Collie, G. Dale, Mabel Jackson, Peace Hamilton, Dorothy Cook, Iris Powell, Sylvia Kimber.

The Wakaipa basketball team played Ladbrooks, the game resulting in a win for Wakaipa by 23 to 2. Mrs S. Bray was the referee.
