Speaking at the duck dinner on Saturday evening, Mr McKenna, of Christchurch, suggested that a toast which should find a place on the programme should be to the ducks, for, he said, these birds occupied a large place in the lives of the people of Ellesmere. They not only provided a. source of attraction for visitors to the district, but excellent sport for the shooters, and were also used for social purposes, as demonstrated by the Gun Club's annual dinner.
