W.D.F.U.

TAI TAPU AND DISTRICTS

BRANCH.

There was a large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Tai Tapu and Districts branch of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, presided over by Mrs G. Henderson. Votes of sympathy were accorded to Mrs Ryan and Mrs P. J. Dulieu, who are ill in hospital and to Mrs Kilgour and the Tobeck family, who have sickness in their families. Mrs Henderson, who was a delegare to the Dominion executive meeting in Timaru, gave a report of her visit. Mrs Wiiles, of "Otahuna," then gave a most interesting demonstration on the making of artificial flowers from paper, flannelette and silk, and also how to make eiderdown quilts from teased wool, as well as quilting for cushions and bags. Mrs Wiiles was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. In the competitions for which Mrs Wiiles and Mrs M. M. Fleming acted as judges, Miss Marie Fiecken was placed first, Mrs Suckling second, mid Mrs Henderson 3rd for a basket of fruit and flowers; for a plate of plain scones Mrs McLachlan was first and Mrs C. H. Watson second. Members of the * Farmers' Union were entertained at supper.
