LADIES' GUILD

ANNUAL MEETING HELD.

The sixth annual meeting of the Leeston Methodist Circuit Ladies' Guild was held in the Dunsandel Church, the Rev. G. P. Hunt presiding. The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, Mrs G. P. Hunt; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. W. Brooks, John Heslop, A. Tong and H. W. Johnson; secretary, Miss N. Doak; treasurer, Mrs Jos. Brooks; Quarterly Board representative, Mrs A. E. Brown. "During the past guild year," stated the secretary in her annual report, "six regular meetings of the Guild have been held, and the interest and enthusiasm of the members have been well maintained. The Setpember meeting was held in Wesley Hall, Leeston, when the election of officers took place. This was a red letter day in our Guild year, for we were honoured by a visit from the famous missionary Rev. J. F. Goldie,, president of Conference, who was accompanied by Gina and Kerah from the Solomons. "In October the Guild met at the residence of Mrs H. W. Johnson, Dunsandel, when arrangements were made for Orphanage Day, on November 28., This special effort is made annually on behalf of the Orphanage, and this year's efforts resulted in £23 14s 7d being sent to the Management Committee, in addition to gifts of produce. After the harvest interval, Guild meetings were resumed on April 10th, when the members met jat the residence of Mrs M. E. Doak, 111-well. The May meeting, held in ■ Wesley Hall, took the form of a farewell to Mi' 3 Harte and Miss Barnett, two valued members of the Guild, . who have left the district.

"In June the Guild again met at Wesley Hall, when the members had the pleasure of entertaining Rev. A. J. Seamer and his Maori party. The July meeting was held in the Methodist Church at Southbridge, when the Guild members were entertained by the Southbridge ladies. "During the year gifts have been contributed towards filling a box for the Solomon Islands. "The chief items of expenditure have been £23 14s 7d to- the Orphanage and £26 for parsonage furnishings. A small credit balance still remains in hand. "The thanks of the Guild are due to those ladies who have entertained the members at their homes, to' those i who have used their cars to convey members to the meetings, and to all | who have contributed in any way to the success of the Guild."
