HARVEST BAZAAR
BIG EVENT IN MAY NEXT.
At a representative meeting held this week the congregation of the Leeston Catholic Church decided to organise a money-raising effort to liquidate certain liabilities, and to allow of some very necessary renovations and repairs being carried out in connexion with the church property. Mr E. R. Winter presided.
After the chairman had briefly outlined the needs of the parish, the meeting lost no time in getting right down to business, and within fifteen minutes the preliminary details were settled.
On the motion of Mr Owens, seconded by Mr Martin Slattery, it was decided to run a two days bazaar in Leeston Town Hall.
A brief discussion arose as to a suitable date, and a motion fixing on Easter time was eventually discarded in favour of the last Friday and Saturday in May.
Mr T. F. Owens was appointed secretary and Mr W. Bohan treasurer.
The following meir's committee, to which there will be additions at subsequent meetings, was appointed: Messrs E. R. Winter, E. Bohan, E. Stapleton, B. Greenan, Collins, J. O 'Gorman, M. Slattery, R. Savage^ L. Moriarty, J. O'Boyle, Owens, W. Bohan.
The ladies, on whom the major part of the work of running the bazaar will fall, will elect their committees at a meeting next week, when sub-commit-tes will also be elected to take charge of the varied departments.
