Soldiers' Send-Offs.
KILUNCHY.
Private O. Isles, who has been a resident of Killinchy at various periods for a number of years past, was accorded a farewell social in the Killinchy Hall on Friday evening, on the eve of his return to camp after final leave. The social was well attended, and the local musicians played for the dance. During the evening songs were sung by Messrs M^T. O'Brien, J. Smith and W. G. Chappeil. On behalf of the residents Mr Andrew Allen presented the departing soldier with a set of military brushes and a service kit,^ at the same time voicing the goocl wishes of Private Isles's Killinchy friends for his safe return. The recipient suitably replied after which supper was served by t the ladies. LEESTON. The Leeston Patriotic Committee tendered a farewell social on Friday evening to Trooper H. G. Hay, son of Mr and Mrs H. M. Hay, of Leeston, who has been down oa final leave during the last ten days or so. Considering that five other sociai functions were held in the district on the same night, the attendance at the send-off was very good and the evening passed pleasantly. Mrs Donald was, as usual, at the pi? no, so that the music was all that could be desired. Surgeon Lieut. Colonel Volckman, member of a Medical Board, with headquarters at Dunedia, who was home on two days' leave, was present at the social, and as chairman of the Patriotic Committee present • ed Trooper Hay with a gold medal as a mark of appreciation and goodwill from bis Leeston friends, Colonel Volckmaa expressed the hope that the recipient would have a pleasant trip Home and that he would return to the Dominion safe and sound after German militarism had been dealt a death blow by the Allies Trooper Hay suitably acknowledged the gift, and after cheers had been given and a verse of the National Anthem sung, supper was dispensed,
