DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MATTERS.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—Will you kindly print this copy of the letter I wrote to the South bridge District High School Committee:

" To the chairman,

Dear sir,—With many thanks for the kind suggestion. I should much prefer to give the medal every year myself. lam sorry to have appeared churlish, but I did not know that the committee ever seriously thought of any public recognition of my work. I do not mind the publicity, but there are so many more important things to collect money for just now.

Will you please ask the outgoing secretary, Mr Willis, if he will slip out of his annual report retired from ill-health,' as I quite intended to retire had I been a quite well. Doubtless the fact 4*4 that I was ill at the end of the year led to the mistake. ■ I am very grateful to the householders for their kindly feeling as expressed at their meeting.'

The rest of the letter merely referred to the inscription on the medal. lam sure the committee will not object to my publishing ■ this letter. I have spent a great many interesting hours with the children of the secondary department and looking back have pleasant thoughts of every one of them" but latterly took to worry oyer what Were perhaps trifles and it was better both for the school arid myself that as I could retire I should do so. - '„. „ Yours, etc.* G. M. GLANVILLE.
