School Committees.
LEESTON.
The L,eeston School Committee met. oh Monday evening ; present, Messrs F. B. Clausen (chairman), T. J. Gilbert and T. J. Ramsey.
The headmaster reported the number on the roll at March 31st, as 85 and the average attendance 78. Several accounts wese passed for payment. SOUTHBRIDGE.
The monthly meeting of the Southbridge District High School Committee was held on Monday evening ; present, Rev. Hawkins (chairman), Messrs Inwood, Sutton, Hubbard, Curran, Rowe and Willis (hon. sec.). An application from Miss Margaret O'Conner as probationer was received.
It was decided to close the school at Easter from Thursday to Wednesday morning.
The name of Miss Arnott was sent to the committee by the Education Board for approval, as the tpost suitable applicant for the position of assistant mistress in the secondary department.
The headmaster reported the quarterly attendances as follows: — primary department, No. of attend, ances, 9724; times open, 78; average attendance, 138.3 (working); weekly roll, 154; average weekly roll 155.2. The monthly foil in the secondary department showed the attendances to be :—No. of attendances, 1283; times open, 38; average attendance, 33.7; weekly roll, 37; average weekly foil 1 37. Miss Laycock, who is temporarily filling the vacancy in the secondary department, occasioned by the resignation of Miss Williams, commenced duties this (Monday) morning.
