♦ At the conference of members of the Farmers' Union Provincial Executive and representatives of the em« ployers and workers on the 20th ult , the following resolution was carried — That the proposal to move Parliament to impose prohibitive Customs duties on imported farm implements and machinery is premature; (2) that no sufficient reasons have yet been shown for any special legislation aim- ! ed at the International Harvester 1 Trust Co., of America; (3) that the Executive recommends members of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, < and farmers generally, to encourage and support, as far possible, the purchase and use of New Zealand-made ■ farm implements and machinery, and thus encourage local industry. The Union brought the resolution under the notice of all members of the House of Representative's, and a number of replies are now to hand. Mr George Witty (Riccarton): — " When the matter is before the House it will have my earnest consideration." Mr T MacKenzie (Waikouaiti):— 11 The subject will have my closest attention, and you can assure your Union that I shall vigilantly protect the farmers' interests m this connection."
