OMAKAU NOTES

Women’s Institute--The monthly meeting of the Omakau-Ophir Women’s Institute was held at Mrs Jones’ residence, when there was a good attendance of members. Mrs Ingram presided and welcomed two new members The opening song was followed by the Aspirations and Institute Prayer. The Thought was taken by Mrs Booth and Mrs Thompson gave a reading on International Day, which proved must interesting and enlightening. The Roll Call was “Toy for Children’s Hospital,” to which there was a ready response. The competition “Best Lettuce’ resulted- Mrs Ingram Ist, Mrs Booth 2nd and Mrs BelLSrd. The meeting closed with the National Anthem.

Personal Mr & Mrs H. Alpine, after an enjoyable holiday in the North Island, returned to Omakau at the week-end. Aircraftsman lan Bell was entertained here on Saturday night, when Mr H. Alpine extended best wishes and made him the usual presentation. Mr Eric Naylor also spoke for the R.S A. The newly-weds, Mr & Mrs D. Hamilton, were welcomed home at a very happy party on Saturday night. Mr T- A Clouston was chairman and he extended the best wishes of al) to the guests that their future would be happy and prosperous. A presentation was also made oy the Lauder Tennis Club. Mr & Mrs Eric G. Harvey, another recenty-married young couple were given an enthusiastic welcome home at Downshire'
