OMAKAU NOTES

( From Our Own Correspondent) A very happy and unexpected meeting of two Lauder lads members of the R.A.F., took place in England recently. They were Sergt* Pilot D. Macdonald and S.W.Opr. Alex Macdonald. One can imagine what a pleasant surprise it would be, to say nothing of the happy re nnion that was bound to follow.

R.S.A. Reunion .. The annual Reunion of the local branch of the R S.A. held on Saturday night was a great success, murked by the high calibre of the speeches and also by the happy atmosphere that prevailed throughout. In this, and indeed,’in all other respects, it was a real re-union and one that will be long remembered. The president (Mr-Eric Naylor) was in the chair and he extended a hearty welcome to all, including a number of returned members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F.. There were 75 present, including visitors from Ranfurly, Dunedin, Alexandra and Cromwell. The principal toast of the evening—"The R S A- was proposed by the chairman and responded to by Messrs Gibson and Mitchell. Other toasts were—“ Navy, Army & Air Force (Mr J.R.McKissock) ‘ 2nd N.Z.E.F.” (Mr Mawhinney) ‘ Our Allies" (Mr H. Alpine), "Local Bodies” (Mr L. Tilbury;, and ‘‘South African Veterans” (Mr W. Harper). There was an excellent musical programme, to which the following contributed items that materially helped to make the reunion the splendid success it undoubtedly was Messrs E, Read, S. Jeffs, J. Bell, H. Oaten and R. Butcher. Mr S Bringans, at the piano, was a host in himself.
