(From our own correspondent.) Mild weather still continues, consequently the river is subsiding but slowly. Electric 2 is still unable to make a Start and the Hartley is waiting for the new top tumbler to arrive from Dunedin, t Electric 1 had another three figure return. Such good returns are likely to continue as the run lately struck is very rich and in virgin country. So far the Ohura Syndicate have failed to strike the same run with the boring rods. Matters are very quiet on theCarrick but very few hands being now employed at Carrick Company’s mines. Miners are going over the hill now to the Nevis and sluicing and elevating will soon be in full swing again. The outlook for a good water supply for the summer is not too bright, as the late mild weather has taken an enormous lot of snow off the ranges. On the Clutha, Shine 1 is still on poor ground. It is to be hoped that the wash will make again in the face, which just now is very drifty. The Rising Sun had atrial run of the “newly erected long elevator on Thursday and everything worked well, and on Friday the dredge started baling the drift out of the paddock. She will continue working in the present cut till the river is for floating down to the lower boundary. On Wednesday evening a social was tendered to Miss Margaret Wishart on the eve of her departure for the North Island. Miss Wishart, who has been in the employ of Mr Talboys here for many years, was universally esteemed. There was a very great gathering, several coming from remote parts of the district. Miss Wishart was also the recipient of some very handsome and valuable jewellery. Mr G. Wishart in a very neat speech, suitably replied on behalf of his sister. Miss Wishart who carries the well wishes of the whole community with her. was also presented with a handsome gold bangle from her fellow employees in falkep’ establishment,
