Clyde School Committee meeting to night. A meeting of the executive of the Clyde Bowling Club is called for tomorrow evening. The principal topic of conversation at Alexandra at present is the proposal to dispose of the Borough’s Chatto Creek water rights to the Government. The general opinion seems to be that it would be wise to sell at a fair figure —from j£6,000 to j£g,ooo being the value put upon it by the civic fathers of the place—so long as the Government gave an assurance that the pres ent users of the water would not suffer any material loss, in the way of reduced supply, or in the matter of increased rates. The rights are very valuable ones, and the residents of Alexandra would be well advised to give the question mature consideration before arriving at a decision. The proceeds of the sale would, however, put the borough in a very comfortable position financially, and ratepayers would be considerably relieved. A member of our staff has received a letter from a friend in Ophir from winch we obtain the following trite'i-sting information : —“A concert is announced at Ophir, in connection with the school, at which Mr William Jones, the eminent Welsh Tenor, has promised to appear, Mr Jones is a new arrival from the old country, and made his first appearance in Dunedin, at the Philharmonic concert there this month. The Dunedin “Star” commenting upon Mr Jones first appearance says—“ His rendering of Onaway Awake Beloved was the finest we have ever heard, his top “A‘s” wore the best heard in the Garrison Hall for many years.” Mr Jones on three occasions was the winner of the Welsh Eistcdfodd, the great singing festival. Mr Jones is visiting friends in Ophir, so that the management should consider itself fortunate in having the services of so distinguished a singer. Apart from the above the remainder of the programme is exceptionally good. The Scho!a r s have been rehearsing for some time, and their items are sure to give pleasure. Two itinerant crayon artists paid a visit to Arrowtown last week. On receiptof tnemodestsum ofhalf-a-crown they were willing to supply a beautifully coloured portrait of the “sitter,” and as the productions were invariably flattering, the “artists” were liberally patronised. Eventually, however, business fizzled out, and the “knights of the pencil” having “done” the town proceeded to “do” the landlord of the hotel at which they were staying. This feat was succesfully accomplished at a very early hour on Fridady morning and the boniface who was left lamenting now avers that even if Rudens and Vandyke came to Arrow they would not obtain accomodation at his hotel.—“ Lake County Press,” Warned Off! — How quickly the stranger whose movements were suspicious would he warned off and moved on, Yet the average 1 cold comes in equally suspicious guise, little or no eft'ort being made to combat its sinister influences. At the first sign of its onslaught, flee to the tried and trusted household remedy. Tonking’s Linseed Emulsion. All chemists and stores, is 6d, 2s bd, 4s 6d,
