An old hawker in Edinburgh, who owner 1 rather attenuated animal, happening tc ;all at a public-house for his customary ’lass, gave his horse in charge of a boy with strict injunctions to be careful of it ind promising him a penny for his pains He had no sooner been served with hi; ham, and had raised the glass to his lip j than the boy ran in to tell him that hi; horse had fallen. Seizing the urchin at urce, he cried—" Ye little rascal, tak’ that’ with a whack on the ear). “ Thai’s sonu V your pranks ; the beast would never ha; fa’a had ye no been leanin’ against i/!”
