Tuapeka Licensing Committee

The annual meeting of the above was held on Thursday, present Messrs F. J. Burgess (chairman), Jas. Rivers, G. Jeffery and G. Elder. Apology for absence, owing to illness, was received from Mi H. Graig.

Mr Hutton appeared for three Clyde licensees, Messrs T. J. Grant, W. ('. Bitches and H. Partridge. The police making no report renewals were granted to all without comment.

But iher’s Gully Hotel (A. Low) Slight improvements asked for by police had been effected and renewal was granted. Bald Hill Flat Hotel, Jno. Dowdall. Mr Hutton asked that the license fee lie reduced but this was not agreed to by the bench as they considered the present fee a reasonable one. Renewal granted. Criterion Hotel, Alexandra, Jas. McQueen. Police asked that improvements he made to right of way and that a urinal he erected. Also that some alteration he made to the fire escapes. The licensee and owner had no* agreed to do the work asked for hut, after some dismission, on Mr Rivers guaranteeing that it would he attended to the renewal was granted, Gorman’s Hotel, Alexandra. Papering and distempering asked by the police had been attended to and renewal granted. Bendigo Hotel, E. Bellamy. Renewal granted. Sergeant Crawford suggested that in the ease of hotels in Alexandra with balconies a handy ladder should he provided to ho used in ease of fire. The Bench concurring, it was agreed to ask the licensees to do so. Chatto Creek Hotel, D. G. Gunn (Mr Hutton). Police report favorable and renewal granted. Shingle Creek Hotel, P. Galvin. Renewal granted. Renewals of licenses were granted for the three Roxburgh hotels, some gravelling required in the yard of Ormond’s Hotel to he attended to.
