Reed) 0 332 Hon. J. D. Ormond’s Sir Launcelot, 3 yrs, v,3 ... ... ... (A, White) 0 There was very little delay at the post before the barrier was raised to a splendid start. The colors of Epaulet wide on the outside and of Venus in the centre were prominent as they ran to the rails, Once fairly in the running, Lord Rosslyn on the inside, with Venus and Haria, were in the van, going stride for stride just in advance of Skirmisher and Primula. After them in a compact mass came Epaulet, Waiuku, St, Paul, and Leda, Day Star, some little way behind, bringing up the rear. Before Cutts’s bend was reached Haria had taken command, and was leading Lord Rosslyn and Leda, who were just showing in front of Waiuku and St. Paul. Primula had dropped back, and was bringing up the rear in company with Day Star. Passing the mile post Haria was pulling hard well in front of Lord Rosslyn, who had still the Tasmanian mare as his nearest attendant, and after this pair came in close order Sir Launcelot, St. Paul, and Waiuku, Epaulet and Day Star together lying in the body of the field. Before the six-furlong post was reached Epaulet bad gone through and taken third place, St. Paul and Waiuku being close in his wake. Racing for the home turn, both Haria and Venus beat a retreat, and Epaulet came on in command of St. Paul and Lord Rosslyn ; Skirmisher, half a dozen lengths back, with Waiuku, being as the head of others. Once fairly in the straight St. Paul ran up to Epaulet, and at the distance he was leading the favorite a length, with Waiuku coming fast. Skirmisher also commenced to make hisrunat this point. Before the half distance was reached Waiuku, under punishment, had supplanted St. Paul, who, with Epaulet, was responding gamely to the calls made upon him. Skirmisher joining in, a great race to the post ensued, every inch ot the way being fiercely contested. The Great Autumn Handicap winner, however, was not to be denied, and lasted long enough to win by half a length from St. Paul, who beat Epaulet a neck for second place, another neck dividing the Yald hurst representative from Skirmisher. Day Star finished fifth some distance back, then came Leda and Lord Rosslyn, Haria and Venus being the last pair. Time 3min 303 ec, Dividend, £5 7s 6d.
