Mining.

Hyde and Party obtained Hot 2dwt 6grs, for last week's work.

Our St, Bathans correspondent writes : An exceptional season is tadng plaoe. Miners are ali busy making the best use of time by washing up ground, which long before this was expected to be unworkable owing to the frosti

ALEXANDEA. The Enterprise dredge obtained 15oz 9dwt for a week's work, last Saturday, The Earnscleugh Dredging Company are experiencing great delay in getting their machinery forward, part of which is being made in Dunedin, and part by Anderson and Co., of Ohristohurch. Delays of this Bort are both expansive and annoying. The authorities in Dunedin compelled Messrs Parks and Co, to have several cross tubes put into their imported boiler for the Manorburn dredge, before it was allowed to be sent on. ;VMost people would think that English makers should know how to- build a boiler by this time* It was made, too, by one of the best firms. Messrs Campbell and Jackson's old claim is now in full work, with a good supply of water*

The share list of applications for preferential B shares in the Molyueux Hydraulic Company closed on Saturday last. The total amount of shares applied for is 4000, 310 of which are to be held in trust for the company. It is expected that the dredge will be working before Christmas, most of the machinery and the timber for the hull having been ordered. Messrs J, Meyer and B. Arnold are sluicing in their claim near the Manuherikia bridge, but on account of having only a very limited supply of water they are un« able to make much progress. The Manuherikia Ooy.'s current wheel dredge has shifted down below Dunn's Gully on the opposite side of the rirer. The Golden Beach Co. are down on to the bottom, and are getting very fair prospects. They intend having the first washing up on Saturday week.

MILLER'S FLAT. (PROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) It is reported that the Golden Run dredge is to be tied up during the winter season, though on good payable gold. It is getting jammed up with tailings, and there is not sufficient water to float the dredge, until the jriver rises again. It is also reported that the company's claim is gradually improving, but water is getting somewhat scarce,

The Otago Company's dredge ia unfortunately often under repair and cannot be said to have had a fair start since it was placed on the new claimi The returns of the Golden Troaaure dredge are gradually increasing since being placed on the winter ground. This dredge obtained 320z last week, and I should not be surprised if she beat the record for this district before the winter ia over.

OPHIR. We understand that many shares are being applied for in the Blacks Gold Dredging Company (Ltd.), better known as Ryan and- Party, and persons wishing to secure shares should lose no time in making appli* cation to the seoretary, Mr W. C. Pitches Eighteen out of thirty-two shareholders attended the meeting at Ophir on Thursday 11th inst., in connection with the Otago Central Qunrtz Reefing Company, to consider what steps should be taken to develop the mine (the company having secured Ryan's aud other reefs). Mr John Pitches was voted to the chair, and in addressing the meeting considered the Company possessed a good property that should pay well if judiciously managed and developed. Other gentlemen also spoke to the same effect. The following gen lemen were appointed a management committee : Messrs R. Sheppa'd, J. Gallagher, W. B. Hawson, J. L. Flint, T. d Donnelly, W. C. Pitches, and J. Mellor (sen). Mr Sheppard was appointed secretary* Miners are to be put on at once, and the capital in hand is to ba expended in developing the reef. A sample of the stone obtained is to be forwarded to Dunedin for treatment*
