THE COLONIAL BANK IN LIQUIDATION.
Mr Justice Williams delivered his derision in Dunedin last Tuesday re the application to sell to Messrs Lee Smith and Reid the assets of the J, G. Ward Association, and in a strongly-worded judgment he declined to sanction the sale. The question ot costs was allowed to stand over. Mr W. Brown's application was also allowed to stand over for the preSßnt after the above judgment had been delivered.
THE COLONIAL TREASURER RESIGNS.
The Hon. Mr Ward has resigned his portfolios, which the Hon. Mr Seddon has taken over for the present. Mr Waid still retains his seat as member for Awarua, but it is expected he will shortly resign that. The Government are setting up a committee to enquire into the whole of the past banking transactions. The committee are to have powjr to confer with any similar committee appointed by the Legislative Council, and are to report within 21 days. The following will constitute the committee : —The Premier, Hon. J. McKenzie, Captain Russell, Messrs Pinkerton. Lang, Buchanan, Millar and Graham. Tuesday's debate in the House was the sultriest known for many years. Mr Ward hit out right and left, and Sir Robert Stout, Mr Duthie, and Dr Newman, delivered caustic speeches, while the Hon. Jno McKenzie and the Hon. Mr Seddon fols lowed on the Government side.
