SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

ALEXANDRA.

The second "meeting appoiniod by the Board for the election of a school committee tor Alexandra (the first meeting hairing failed to eleot a committee on account of the crowd and inconvenience at the school) took place in the town ball last Monday, 15th inst., when there was a very orderly, harmonious and good«huraoured meeting. Eighty-five voters recorded their votes, but a considerable number were not pre-sent-probably about 20 more-whowere entitled to vote. In addition, the hall was filled by a large crowd of the public, who came to hear the proceedings. These facta ■howed the wisdom of adjourning the meeting to the hall, as the largest class room is seated for only 71 children, and of course could not accommodate with comfort 150 or 200 adults. Besides, the convenience and privaoy for voting in the hall were all that could be desired and the election passed off without a hitch. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Lothian, seconded by Mr 0. Magnus, Mr H. Symes was appointed chairman of the meeting, and Messrs Grimstone and Boyne scrutineers and clerks. Nominations were then received and a ballot taken, with the following result:—William Theyers, 69 ; James Kelman, 59 ; William Fraßer, 49; George Campbell, 49 ; William Milne, 45; Olof Magnus. 40; A. Kennedy, 39 ; W. Hansen, 38 ; T. Auld, 29 ; J. Magnus, 24 ; C.Nieper, 21 ; G. Aitken, 17. The chairman accordingly declared the first seven duly elected, and read the Board's intimation calling the first meeting for to»ni»ht. At the close a hearty vote of thanks was proposed to the chairman, and also to Messrs Grimstone and Boyne for their valuable services as clerks. The polling was finished shortly after nine o'clock, the meeting closing at halfcpast nine.

OPHIR. By 7.30 p.m., on Monday last, the Blacks sohoolroom was crowded, fully 150 people being present, from a radius of 10 ndies. Whether they all possessed qualifications to vole is another question, as a ballot was found to be unnecessary, only seven name 3 being submitted as willing to stand for election. Mr P. Harrington took the chair, and on rising to address~the meeting cries of • Who put you there ' were raised. Dr Ward was then proposed, also Mr J. Pitches and Mr W. Green. The former's narr.3 was submitted to the meeting and be was declared elected.

The chairman then read out a list of names which had been handed in prior to the meeting, but as it was pointed out that no chairman then existed, the nominations were again gone through, as follows :—Dr Ward, Messis P. Harrington, D. Stafford, N. Peacook, J. Wilson, C. Gallagher, and W. Watson.

During the whole proceedings, householders and others attempted to address the meeting but were howled down, Dr Ward declared the above seven duly elected, and called for three cheers for Mr Harrington. The latter gentleman immediately returned the complimeut in calling for three cheers for Dr Ward.

The committee met immediately after, and elected Mr P. Harrington chairman, and Dr Ward hon. secretary.
