I noticed that Mr Robert GUkison during; the discussion on the paper re the French Solution of IS4B-51 read in ray absence by Mi Symes) remarked, inter alia, that the French people must have very short memories or else the horrors oi the Reyolution must have been overdrawn, aa by a plebiscite of the nation Napoleon was elected emperor. A plebiscite of the nation had b«n taken, it is true, but it was tor the presidency of the Republic proclaimed in 1848- and. it was through him transforming the form oil Oov•rnment into an Empire by hii famous coup d eta» that caused the revolution of 1861.
