London, June 18. The Canadian Premier, Mr Abbott, has announced that the policy of the new Government will strictly'follow the lines laid down by Sir J. Macdonald. The melting of a glacier near Merau, in the Tyrol, flooded the valley and destroyed the crop, doing much damage. In the House of Commons the bill providing for marriage with a deceased wife s sister lias been withdrawn. The Federation league intends to accept Lord Salisbury’s challenge to formulate a scheme for the federation of the Empire. At the annual meeting of shareholders of the new Oriental Bank, a dividend at the rate of 6 per cent per annum was declared. In their report the directors admitted that the bank had lost a sum of L 12,000 over the Gatling Gnu Company, and that there were possible losses of LBO,OOO in Melbourne, and L 70,000 in Singapore. Paris, June 18. In addition to Captain Tripone, two Frenchmen, who are alleged to bo agents of Sir William Armstrong and Co. in Paris were sentenced to five years imprisonment each on a charge of disclosing the secret of the manufacture of melinite.
