VINCENT COUNTY COUNCIL

The usual two-monthly meeting of the Council will he hehl mi Wednesday the 2.'1n1 day of July, 1879, when the following business will be transacteil:— AnjoiniNKD Motion's. Councillor Creenbank to move :—That the petition of Thomas Spain, and others, from Matakanui, be taken into consideration, with the view of comparing the cast of road works done by day labor, as against similar work done by contract. Councillor Fraser to move :—That it is desirable that all works constructed by the Council be let by tender when practicable. Notiqes of Motion. 1. Cr. Naylor to move :—That tenders ho forthwith called for the erection of the Clyde bridge. 2. Cr. Creenbank to move That a sum of money, being not h.ss than one-half of the amount to he received by this Council from the sale of land within the County be expen lo I in opening up roads to such lands immediately on this sale thereof, 3. Cr. Creenbank to move That thirty pounds be vo'cl for bye-roads about Tinkers and Drybread. 4. Cr. Creenbank to move That fifty pounds he voted for main road to Devonshire Gully. 5. Cr. Creenbank to move That four hun dred pounds bo voted for roads in Spottia Hundred, completing first the road, east side of Sections 2d to H i, and road East of Sections 37, 33, an I 39. C. Cr. M‘Ginnisa to move;— That after Contracts are signed by successful tenderers, the names of all the tenderers, with tlu ir amounts be published once in the two local papers. 7. Cr. M'Ginniss to move : That owing t>. the price of deferred payment land having been raised to pounds per aero, it is, and has been a bar to the settlement of the people on the land. Therewith, with the view to facilitate settlement, and to enable people with small moans to acquire homes for themselves on the land, this Council recommend to the Government the desirability of at once reducing the price of deferred payment land to its original cost, viz—thirty shillings per acre. 8. Cr. Colclonghto move : That there he laid on the table at each regular meeting of the Council a tabulated statement of all cheques issued against the County account, shewing date of issue, to whom issued, under what vote of the Council, and whether under contract or otherwise. 9. Cr. Colclough to move : That 6 months notice ho given to the Bank of New Zealand to terminate the existing agreement, and that the County account be again offered by tender. 10. Cr. Jolly to move : That owing to the | severity of the weather, a number of men have teen thrown outof employment, the Engineer be instructed to lay nIT two Sections of the road—Ben ligo to Quartz ilecf Poi.it —the same to be completed by day labor.

11. Cr. Jolly to move :—That plans and specifications he prepared, and tenders called for the erection of a traffic bridge over the Clutha river, at a site finally to bo fixed by the Engineer, and the Committee appointed to report upon same.
