A meeting was held at the Queen's Arms Hotel, Queenstown at which Mr Haughtcn, M.H.E., M.P-C. was pment for the purpose of giving an account of hi" stewardship. The meeting was well attended, by both storekeepers and miners. Mr Dalglc.sh (agent for the Bank o' Ocago) waj unanimously voted to the Chair.
The Chairman explained the object of the meeting, and begged for Mr Ilaughton a patient hearing. Mr Haugbton laid before the meeting a digest of the Session, and also explained his conduct respecting local affairs, to the entire satisfaction of those present. Mr Haughton spoke for about an hour and aha'f and at the conclusion several question* were put, which were satisfactorily answered.
A. vote of censure, which had been passed on Mr Haughton by the Town Improvement Committee was revoked, at the instance of Mr Bowes, the proposer of the same, ar.d a vote of confidence u lanimously carried in its place. The fefling of distrust in Mr Haughton which has been prevalent here for a long time, has been dispelled, and has given place to on eof confidence. Mr Haughton intimated his hilenlion of becoming a representative for Hampden in the General Aaxmlly, and there is no doubt but that be will te elected.
