JOURNALISTS' INSTITUTE.

[FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Christchurch, Last night. A meeting of the couucil of the Institute of Journalists was held to-day. Mr Carncro&s, M.H.R., wrote that he would be pleased to again introduce his Libel Bill this session. The Council decided to request him to introduce a clause to meet the difficulty disclosed by the recent decision of the Appeal Court, that the criminal code made no provision for prosecution in the caso of criminal libel, and also approach the Government and see if they are willing to take up the bill. An opinion was read from counsel to the Institute to the effect that the Institute could not register under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act as an industrial union, and that it was a fully incorporated'body tinder its own Act, 1895. Mr T. Clarkson was elected auditor in place of Mr Nolan, resigned. The d.aft of the anuual report was, agreed to. It was decided that the annual meeting be held in Wellington on August 26th and to recommend the headquarters be at Dunedin for the coming year. The following officers were nominated: —President, Mr M. Cohen (Dunedin); vice-presidents, Mes°rs Gresley Lukin (Wellington), W. H. Triggs (Christchurch), and A. S. Reid (Auckland); secretary, Mr G. R. Allen (Chcistchuch); treasurer, Mr W. J. Walker ; auditor, Mr J. Hutcheson (Dunedin). Matters placed for the consideration of members at the annual meeting include proposals to establish benefit, and insurance schemes and register under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act.
