Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Fergusson, son of Sir James Fergusson, has married the Earl of Glasgow's second daughter. Lord Brassey, late Governor of Victoria, interviewed, said that the salary of the Victorian Governor was sufficient if he was only expected to perform strict official duties. Lieutenant Guy Gaunt, of the Porpoise, has been appointed to the rank of Commander for services in the late trouble at Samoa.
King Menelik, of Abyssinia, has sent King Edward the Grand Cross and Star of Ethiopia.
The Standard states that it is proposed to invite all the colonial Premiers to attend the coronation, and also to hold a conference on Imperial questions, including the commercial relations between the Motherland and the colonies. Sydney, July 19. Lieutenant-Colonel Mackay, just returned from the Cape, soys that it is worth the while of any State, or Australia as a whole, to send a competent cbmmercfal agent to South Africa to develop trade.
