Hews has been received that a British gunboat defeated a force of Mahmud'a fugitives at El Aliab, killing 200, and capturing 70. The captives assert that 2000 perished of thirst, or were lost in the desert, after their defeat at the hands of Sir H. Kitchener. By a colliery fire at Whitewick, Leicester, thirty-five miners perished. Lord Salisbury returns to England on the 30th inst. Tyers, the English amateur swimmer, has turned professional. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,920,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,850,000. quarters. Share quotations are unaltered. Paris, April 20. The daughter of the late Due de Persigny has committed suicide. Athens, April 20. The evacuation of Thessaly by the Turkish troops begins on the 24th instant
