WHY GIRLS DON'T MARRYVEXATA QUÆSTIO.
ITO THE BtSrOß.ji
Sib,—l wish to give you my veiteioa re marriage. I put it down to eduoation in a great measure—the marriage failure. Take my ease, for instance. My poor old dad ia a working man, and no scholar, and he ond ma (bless their old hearts!) wish me to marry a laboring man in their own Station in life—a man that weais moleskins, my abomination (the moles not ,the man). Ma bought pa a new pair the other day, and tho odor of those moles in the house was a oaution, as bad as ling fish; I was quite j || upset. Being a fceventh Standard girl, | necessarily my olfactory nerves are very | sensitive, and the thought of being tied to 1 a man that wore moleskins, and living in | bad odor for a lifetime, quite unnerved me. ( I draw the line at moleskins. ,
My " cheese and kisser " —a bueh teria for sweetheart—must be above par, a man I could look n? to, one who could keep a Seventh Standard girl as fihe should bo kept, a man who could introduce me to le beau nunde suoh as au M.H.8., or private seoretary to one of our Cabinet Ministers, otherwise I would muoh prefer advertising with you for a situation aa governess or lady's companion. Knowledge is power with me at my home, and my education causes the old folk a lot of trouble at times. Scrubbing, washing, cleaning pots, and other drudgery about the house, is very distasteful to me. I think State schools are to blame for eduoatina: high-minded young girls like myself above their sphere, spoiling us for domestic life. " Kil Desperandum "is my motto. I am like my old namesake, Mr Mioawber, waiting for someone out of the common to turn up, or else I am afraid I shall die an old maid.—l am, etc., Abaminta Micawbkb. Makotuku, April 18, 1696.
