Volunteering.

Major Wood has received a telegram from the Under-Socretary for Defence in connection with the holding of a camp here at Easter, and a meeting of the Finance Committees of the Garrison and Hastings Corps and Band will be held to-night to coDsidpr the matter. It is very late in the day now for the Department to agree to holding a camp, for the men would have to lie a.sembled on Thursday night. Major Wood made an application as far back_ as February last to hold an Easter gathering of Volunteers, but it was not granted, and we believe tho refusal was a very curt one, too.

All Volunteers are requested to attend al the drill-shed this evening.

The Rifle Volunteer, mustered strongly at the special parade called for last niijht The regulation hats for the Kharkee uniform were served out, making this dress complete ; it has the effect of giving a comfortable appearance to the men. The company was marched out to Clivo-square, and was treated to different manoevures on the line of maroh. At the square the men were extended for skirmishing by half company, the other half acting as support. The orders were given with the bugle, the guides and markers commanding the different sections seeing that they were carried out. It being a bright moonlight night, the drill proved beneficial and acceptable in comparison with those held in the Garrison Hall, and no doubt will be repeated when the drill night is favorable. It has been decided that the shooting competition for Lieut. Swan's rifle on Easter Monday will be a handicap match, so the younger shots will have an equal chance of winning it as the more practised hands.
