Mr Thos. Sidey is leaving for Auckland ii'-xr Saturday, and will be absent about a for night. He will therefore postpone his motion in the Municipal Council for the repeal of the ridiculous bathing by-law until his return. This he finds is necessary owing to a strong section iv the Council being in favor of turning people out of Napier to get their sea-bathing elsewhere. It will be interesting when Mr Pidey's motion does come forward to see how the Councillors vote, because at tbe next election the ratepayers will be guided by it.
I A meeting of the committee appointed by itae Agricultural and Pastoral Society to endeavor to arrange a competition of sheepshearing machines next season was held this morning. Mr liansr, who has recently returned from Australia, was preseut, and informed the committee ot tbe results of his enquiries on that side After some discussion, tho following resolution was carried :—" That as there appear.- no proability of obtaining more than two machines, and no certainty of more than one, to comp-te at the proposed trial of shearing machines in 1832, the project be abandoned for tbis season."' a. cordial vote of thanks was accorded Mr Lang for the trouble ho had taketi in the matter.
The Charitable Aid Board met this aft.rI noon. Present — Messrs Tiffon (in the chair), Faulknor, Hon. J. D. Ormond, M.L.C, Carnell. Cohen, Henry Will-ms, Tanner, M'Hardy, Rymer, and Swan, M.H.R.—Mr Cohen made feeling reference to tho death of their late member, Mr .John Mackersey, and _oved that the Board send a letter of condolence to his widow. Mr Swan sesonded, and tbe motion was carried —Mr Cohen's motion for alterations to the Refuge was postponed.—Mr Gilbertson intimated that it would be necessary to appoint an almoner for the Waipawa district, in place of the late Mr Mackersey The Chairman to communicate with Patangata and Waipawa County Councils regarding the appointment of a successor, and also to appoint a member to rr>piesent PaUngata County Council on the Board. —Rations were granted to certain applicants.
