The Premier and Postmaster-General will attend the banquet to be given at Palmerston on the 16th mst. to the Minister for Lands,
The statement telegraphed from Wellington yesterday that the Hon. Mr Ward intended visiting Australia is authoritatively denied.
The Premier intends taking a trip through tho Otago land district shortly, in order to recruit his health.
The Star is responsible for tho following : "In the cloning hours of the session, the Premier in the course of his reply ou the Appropriation Bill, attacked Mr Fiah. Tho latter wrote to Mr Ballanco demanding an explanation, and the Premier, in reply, charged Mr Pish with conspiring to load the labor members, and at the same time endeavoring to stab them. This Mr Fish absolutely denies, and he has called for facts to support the assertion. He promises that when the correspondence is completed it shall be published. Some spicy reading may be looked for."
Shearing commenced this morning at Mr Hill's station at Fernhill, Omahu. The American Minstrels peiform at the Town Hall this evening. The Borough Council meet this evening, when it is hoped that the Fire Brigade question will be definitely settled. The Wesleyan social gathering _ was largely attended last night, and highly enjoyed. After a full concert programme had been gone through, refreshments were handed round, including some excellent coffee. Like the musio, the contributions were voluntary, and at the conclusion the church funds were benefited as well aa much amusement created by the sale of a large amount that remained. At the interval the Rev. Mr Sinclair congratulated them upon the heartiness with which they carried out the social gathering, and informed them that on next Sunday evening a speoial service for young children would beheld. Encores were not permitted, but the audience testified their appreciation by frequent applause. The following was the programme, besides some extras that were sung :—Chorus, " Wake, Captives," choir ; song, "Ninety-nine," Miss Steevens ; recitation, Rev. W. A. Sinclair; sonjr, "Liquid Gem," Miss Joll; song, Mr Goldsmith; chorus, "Let us Rejoice;" song, "Rachel's Tomb," Miss Vincent; quartette, " Nearer Home," Mrs and MLs Jacobi, Messrs Land and Jacobi; reading, Mr Heigh way; chorus, "From Tents of Pine;" song, "Vacant Chair," Miss Catherall; chorus, " Rejoice."
