I OWN COBBK.I'ONDKNT. | INSTALLATION OF MAYOE., Present—Councillors Beilby, Foreman, Hughes, Land, Murdoch, J. H. Williams aud Mr W. F. Burnett (Mayor elect.) The Town Clerk, Mi- J. Colliugo, said that this was the statutory meeting required by law for installing tbo Mayor. Mr Burnett then came forward and made the declaration. He then mounted to the Mayor's seat, amid the applause of those prosent. Cr. Beilby said that, ho was highly pleased to moo His Worship accept that honorable position, for the second timo. During his short term of ofiioo he had shown himself well fitted for that position. Ho (Cr. Beilbv) begged leave to assure His Worship of" tho support of tho Council during his ensuing term of offico. Mr Burnett briefly returned thanks. Whilo.he ocenpiod tho position of Mayor of Hastings it was his intention to do his best for the interests of the town. 800 LICj-NSKS, The Town clerk notified to the Council that tho amount of tax por dog would havo to bo fixed. ' Cr. Murdoch moved, and Cr. Beilby seconded, " That the tax be as in the last year 5s per dog, except greyhounds, for which the tax should bo 10s per annum. Cr. Foreman proposed us an amendment that shepherd's dogs bo free of dog tax, all other dogs to be charged £1 per annum. Cr. Williams seconded the amendment. Or. Murdoch opposed the amendmont as cliquey aud tyrannical to the general public. The interests of shecpfarmers were not the only interests to be consulted in the matter ; other people had uses for dogs as well. Motion carried, Btmsn. * TO WKTLKYAN TEUSTEJCS. ' Tho Town Clerk read a loiter from the Borough solicitors, stating that in their opinion it would not be legal to make the proposod grant of .-C2-). Cr. Foreman suggested that tho difti-ulfcy might be got ovor by making it payment for work done. Cr. Murdoch thought that the bast way would bo for the Wesley an trustees to wake , a formal demand of £20 for. work done, Ot j
course, even for this a further opinion would have to obtained from their legal
advisers. He moved to that effect. Seconded by Or. Beilby, and carried. OVHEDUE BATES. On tho motion of Cr. Beilby, seconded by Or.. Murdoch, tho Clerk was instructed to Bus for rates due to November 30th, 1890. BAT IS OP MEETINO. Cr. Beilby proposed, and Cr. J. H. Williams seconded, that aathenextordinarjr date for meeting would be a publin it be postponed till January Bth, 1891. The Council then 'adjournod.
