Commercial.

The following information has been supplied us with regard to the export of potatoes from Hawfto's Bay for the last five months from Ist April to date : —The Union Company's steamers have taken 44,000 sacks and other vessels 25,000 sacks, making C 9,000 sacks in all. It is estimated that another 11,000 sucks will be sent away within the next fortnight, which will bring the export to the end of month to 80,000 sacks. Twelve years ago this province was importing potatoes from southern ports.

Mr H. P. Cohon reports as follows :— Fine weather and a fair attendance favored me at my sale of thoroughbred ecook at Stortford Lodge, Hostings, yesterday. The bidding at the start was rather inactive, but became more spirited as the sale progressed. Tho following , were the principal lots offered and prices realised:—The thoroughbred entire horse Foul Play was the first lot offered, and after very fair competition, was knocked down to Mr Murphy (Woodville) at 95 guineas. The thoroughbred mare Miss Dargoa was secured by Mr Percy Martin at 91 guineas- other lines of brood mares and young colts fetching vory fair prices. I also offered.on. account of Mr W. Y. Dennett the bay gelding. Chance, which Mr Q. Ellis secured at 60 guineas. On'account of other olionts, two heavy draught geldings sold at £18. Cattle were dull of of sale, dairy cattle cspeoitlly. Forward steers brought £4 ; stores, £2 15s to £3; dairy cows in milk, £2 10s to £4 10s, and other cattle at about late rates. |

[PEB PBKSS ASSOCIATION."] Dunkdht, This day. Wheat.—There ie a fair enquiry experienced, and doubtless owing to the favorable tone of the London market thero is no difficulty experienced in placing any lines of best milling White Velvet and Tuscan offering. Prime Red straw is also saleable, but there is very little demand for medium, except fer fowl's wheat, which ia now getting exceedingly scarce. Wo quote prime milling, Volvot, and Tuscan at 3s 5d to 3s 7d; extra prime, a shade more ! medium to good, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; inferior to medium to good, 3s 4d; inferior to medium (scarce), 2s 10d to 3s 2d (es-storo; sacks weighed in.) Oats.—During the pas* , week a much better demand has been experienced, and considerable sales have been effected. Nearly all the lots that agents have (up to the present) been free to sell have been placed at about equal to late quotations, perhaps slightty ovor in ono or two instances where the quality has been extra prime Stocks are still pretty full, although considerably reduced lately. The bulk of those in store now are medium good feed only. Very few good milling lots have been left on hand, and although buyers are in a mood to further increase their purchases, they are not desposed to exceed the prices lately current. At the moment thoro is a fair opportunity of placing good lines, and considering the quantity still unsold,

it is somewhat questionable if prices will to any appreciable extent improve during the next few months. Wo now quote best feed and milling Is 3jd to Is 4d; extra prime, slightly over medium to good, Is 3d to Iβ 3M; inferior and musty, Is to Is 2jd (exstore ; sacks extra). There is very little demand for long oats, except well grown clean, suitable for seed.

Barley continues dull of sale, rnalsters wants being rimply supplied. At present there is no demand of any consequence for milling, and while the price for oats continuo3 so low, very little is disposed of. For feeding, the market, however, at the moment is quite bare of really good malting, the bulk of the stock in store being only very medium. Wo quota prime malting 2a 6d to 2s 9d ; medium, 2s 3d to 2s 6d; feed and milling, Is Id to 2s (ex-store).
