THE SHIPPING DIFFICULTY
Sydney, This day. It is believed in shipping circles, should the difficulty with the Seamen's Union, tho Maritime Labor Council, and tho Chinese Steam Navigation Company assume important proportions, the Australian coal trade with Hongkong will be almost cut off, and the necessary supply obtained from Japan. EXPLOSION OF A BOILER. Aselaidk, This day. A boiler exploded at Greonock yesterday, wrecking an engine-room and injuring threo men. A man named Hommerling had his leg blown off, and is not expected to recover. STEAMER BURNT. The river steamer Britannia has been completely destroyed by fire while on a voyage up the Murray River. Sho had a large number of passongors on board, who wero rescued with difficulty. One of the crew was seriously burnt before ho could get oif the burning vessel. Nothing definite is known m to tho cause of tho outbreak. THE BROKEN CABLE. The recent break in tho cable extended a distance of eight miles. SHIPWRECK. Hoh.vut, This day. Tho ship General Picton, Captain Morgan, bound from Melbourne to London with a general cargo, struck a reef oil Foster's Maud, Banke Straits, and becumo a total wreck. The crew were saved. WANT-OF-CONFIDENCE MOTION. Mr Nicholas Brown, member for Cumberland, has tabled a notice of want-of-oonfiileneo in the Government's financial policy. Tho House has adjourned until August loth.
