So_i_THi_a funny in tho matter of taking an oath occurred at tho R.M. Court yesterday. It was in tho case of Reardou v. Hovell. The plaintill', with some degrco of religious fervor, demanded to bo sworn ou tho Douay Bible, Tho required volume was procurod and tho scruples of plaintiff wero satisfied. He gavo his evidence, nnd thon left tho witness-box, leaving the two Bibles on the ledgo. Then canio the noxt witness, Mr Henry Ellison, and the Clerk, with an apparently reckless indifferenco as to tho relative merits of the two inspired books, proceeded to swear him, tho witness having carelessly kissod the French edition. Mr Dick, council for defendant, in tones of horror, called aloud, " Good Gracious, you have kissed the Douay Biblo ! " Mr Ellison dropped tho heretical book like a hot potato, and demunded to be sworn again. This was done on tlio orthodox edition, and then Mr Dick quietly remarked, "When you think you havo been sufficiently sworn, perhaps, wo shall be üble to proceed." Tho Court smiled, and judgment was eventually reserved.
