Si-i.—l notico.in Mr Black's report to the Municipal Counoil re Marino Parado protective "works ho proposes l that' tome permanent work should oe undertaken from the south end of the present wall to Salestreet. I would like to ask, why stop at Sale-atreetP Does Mr Black think th a t the rate pavers south of Sale-street are not entitled to have their property protected as thoso on the town side,- I notioo that the I demands for rates are made pretty re. ! gulnily. Perhaps he thinks that we are mostly of the poorer class, and that it does not matter about our small holdings or our furniture getting damaged by the sea. I venture to say that a number of the ratepayers south of Sale-street would, in ad- • dition to paying a speoial rate, willinalv subcciibe a few pounds eaoh towards eorne permanent-work, provided the said subscription could bo made : by. (say) four quarterly poyments, or as the work wo gressod- i TruuUng that the Oouncifiors will extend the scheme as the "White-ioad crossing or make Sale-street the boundmr of the borough,—l am, etc., "' '
