A letter has been received by Mr F. O'JB, Louglinan from Mr Tanner, containing a copy of the petition presented byMrTreadwoll, solicitor, ofWellington, on behalf of tho Eev. Richard Western, of England. This jrentloman claims to be the heir to the Ho well estate which tho Waipawa people have tried to obtain a public endowment ■ through a petition presented by their member, Mr Tanner, entitled the " Waipawa Reserve Bill," The petition is known to M«*<j Bennett, tho relick of Mr HoweU, from what she says there is no doubt as to tho relationship of the claimant to her late husband. .. : •

Mr Glover, an apostle of temperance generally, and a lecturer of the Temperance Alliance Association of New Zealand, lectured hero last night in tho Reohabito Hall. Tho attendance was not largo. Mr, R r Harding presided, and was supported, on tho platform by the Rev. Messes Bonning and McOlean. Mr Harding briefly introduced tho lecturer, who forthwith gave a very interesting uddros.s dealing- chiefly ■with tlie purposes of the .Alliance and ITree Trade as applied to drink matters. The members of tho Good Tomplara and a jroodly numbtr of the Rcchabitos were present in.. uniform. The Blue Ribbon choir 'gave several selections in veiy nice style,' Miss Hornsby prefidinS at the Haunonium.
