Tho Daily Nows says that tho despatch of Sir Henry Parkes on the Chinese question breathes defiance to England,. and will; not strengthen Lord Salisbury's hands, in his parleying with the Chinese Govomment. The Imperial Government are in a dilemma on tho Chineso question owing to the action of the Australian colonies. The Government aro inactive correspondence with the Chinese Minister on tho subject. •In the House of Commons Mr Henniker ..Heaton demanded the production of Sir Henry Parkes' protest against the influx of Chineso, and also copies of all trearie-t between England and China. Mr W. H. Smith replied that tho Government could not comply with tho request. Sydney. May IG. The Chinese Restriction Bill is being discussed in tho House, and is generally well received, though some members protest agaiust tho action of tho Government in showing such haste in the matter, nnd deproc.tte tho attitude assumed towards the Imperial authorities. A petition has been presented to Parliament by tho Chineso residents, praying that the present legislation may not affect their rights, and .that it may not affect thoso who havo left tho colony intending to return under tho privilege of the present law.
