payers so determine at the local option poll, ■ but within no district in the province of Hawke's Bay can a bottle license be granted, and consequently no poll need be taken with regard to it. This is set forth in the 33rd suction of the Act which provides that bottle licenses shall' be issued only within such districts, and in such: parts thereof respectively, wherein on the day before tho commencement of this Act (1SS1), the issue of such licenses was authorised by law. Long before tho Act came into force, the old Hawko'e Bay Provincial Licensing Act had been amended under which bottled licenses could iiot bo issued. We draw the.attention of the chairmen of the Licensing districts within this province to the above fact, and refer them to tho public notices they have issued, for if no alteration-bemadc the local option polls may be rendered nugatory.
