The Amy Sherwin Company departed from Napier to-day, and we have no recollection of a troupe having left behind them such a general feeling of angry annoyance. Miss Sherwin was received hero with every courtesy, and by the energies of her advance agent, Mr Bishop, and h«r own reputation secured bumper houses. But because a Napier audience is not frantically demonstrative, and goodness knows there was nothing to be demonstrative about at her concerts, the lady chose to display an ill-disguised attitude of contempt for her audiences. On Thursday, we'are told, Herr Gorlitz had great difficulty to get her to sing- at all; she was only down on the programme for three appearances, and to overy recall she merely bowed her acknowledgements, for not another note would she utter. Again, the season was to be of four nights, but without any announcement it was reduced to three, and country settlers arrived in town last night from us far as seventy miles' distance to attend the fourth concert, only to find the theatro shut up. We do not know what there is in Miss Sherwin that she should assume airs in such striking contrast to the courtesy and good nature which were such pleasing character- ■ istics of those true Queens of Song Jenny Lind, Christine Nilsen.Adelina and Carlotta j Patti, and lima di Murska.
A telegram was forwarded from here last Wednesday by tho Pre-ss Association agent stating that "Mr Dobson, agpnt-superin-tendent of the Colonial Union Steamship Company, had received a cable message from Messrs Tyser and Co., London," and then followed the cablegram concerning the condition of tho Solembria's cargo. We notice thht both tho AVellington and Auckland papers carefully excised the words, " agent-Huperintcndent of the Colonial Union Steamship Company." We presume the journalists of thoso two cities could not be brought to publish the fact that Napier is the head-quarters of the Tyser line of steamers; that Mr Dobson is the chief of all tho New Zealand agents ; and that Captain Todd, the ship's husband for tho Company, resides here.
