BUSH NEWS.

iQW-T COREESPON-DEKT.J

A great deal of time and money havo lately been expended iv erecting new sawmills, and improving thoso mills which had been already erected, in the Seventy-mile Bush, which, eonseijutmtly, are now capable of supplying weekly about half a million superficial feet, if an adequate demand was presented: but, unfortunately, such is not theease at the present time, for now the majority of the mills arc-really _, 0 t doing half work. AVith a view to make a strenuous effort to remedy such a st _te of things, the membera oi the Saw-milling Association aro getting' a quantity of rimu and whito pine boards aud scantling- prepared for the Australian market, for which they expect to obtain a payable price, and so establish a new and continuous market for the future, which is a most important desideratum, as the want of a permanent market or outlet for their timber has been hitherto ruinous to the trade. In order to sco this desirable object an accomplished fact without much further delay, at a recent meeting of the Association it was unanimously resolved that, Mr Matthew Hendorson (of the firm of Mossrs'AVratt and Henderson), Danevirke, bo immediately sent over to the Australian colonies as agent for the purpose of making such arrangements as will meet the approval of tho Association and be- conducive to the prosperity of the timber trade generally.

The Foley, had their usual musical festivities last night in ihe Town Hall, Danevirke, to a fairly yood audience, acting in the varied impel-sonatiaus to the satisfaction and delight of those present. The weather is extremely dry; great need and cry for rain. Some of the sawmill owners begin to feel the drought by the scarcity of water. The most of tho tires, I hear, are now getting harmless, although the whole country is full of smoke. The new Presbyterian Church at Danevirke will be opened on the 20th inst, by tho Rev. Mr Paterson, of St. Paul's Church, Napier, who is to preach there in the morning and evening. Tenders are now called for tlie English Church for the Rev. Mr Roberts-haw at Danevirke.
