Dttnedin, This day. _Dr. Maclntyrc, in his pross-oxamination, said ho novor ordered Cain tho quantities of ehampagno ho got; ho would havo thought from a pint to two quarts enongb, with a little stronger stimulants occasionally.—At first tho cough-mixturo was limited by directions to a bottle, but tho limitation was removed bocauso he thought ltss was required on acoount of tho troublesomoness of tho cough. If those medicines woro taken in largo quantities they might caueo tho pationt to tako a dislike to thorn, and especially if taken with moro stimulants than intended thoy would produoo a great daal of thirst. If takon in oxcoss they would produce vomiting. They would cause constipation, but might cause irritation of the stomach prior to vomiting. Ho did not think tho irritation would oxtend to the bowels, but ho would not say thoy would not produce purging, though ho was disposed to think the opposite offocts on account of tho presence of opium. Witness had not had much to do with Bright's disease. Both diarrhoea and sickness might be characteristic of the disoase from which Cain suffored. Thirst was quite consistent with his diseases. Witnoss nevor roally hoped for his (Cain's) ro-, covery. It was characteristic of his disease that ho should bo found near his end in a drowsy stato. Witness discovered on January 28, a twitching of tho face, which was consistent with tho final stages of Cain's illnoss.
