In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning, before Captain Prccco, R.M., John HoAvard pleaded guilty to a chargo of drunkeunoss, and AA'as fined 10s and costs, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Two cases and cross cases for assault were hoard, Neagle v. AVoolins, and AA r oolins v. Neaglo. The information against Richard Neaglo was dismissed, as was also one of the informations against AVoolins. In the tAvo remaining cases a" fine of £1 and costs waa inflicted on AVoolins, and of £2 and costs on Mrs Neagle. Mr Lascelles represented the Neagles, and Mr Leo appeared for AVoolins.

Hegarty's Court Minstrels give their last performance of tlio season in the Theatre Royal to-night, when avo expect to see a crowded house On Saturday evening there Avas a very fair attendance, considering tho state of tho Aveather, and the fact that Saturday is proA-crbially a bad " show night" in Napier. Tho programme ou that occasion, hoAVGA-cr, was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, who applauded each of the performers most heartily. In the second part Miss Vesta Amor Avon a avoll deserved encore for her fine rendition of tho song " Killarney," and in response boAved her acknoAvlcdgcment. To-morrow and AVednesday night tho company appear at AVaipaAva, and on Thursday and Friday at Hastings.

A very sad and fatal accident occurred at Petane on Saturday, by which a carter in tho employment of Messrs McLellan and Anderson lost his life. Tho deceased, aa-Jiosg name is Joseph Rands, left the Petane Hotel about 2.30 o'clock in the afternoon for the Upper Mohaka AA'ith a loaded dray draAvn by three horses. Ho reached the bend of the cutting leading doAvn to tho Petane A r alley iv safety, but at that point, owing either to negligence in driA'ing tho animals, or to the loading horses, one off AA'hich has the name of being "skittish," becoming frightened and unmanageable, the dray capsized over the embankment, dragging the horses Avith it. A man named Fagan, Avho had been Avith the deceased, but avlio had stopped on the road to speak to a friend, came up soon afterwards, and found Rands at tho bottom of the cutting literally buried beneath the three horses, one of which had been killed by tbe fall, and tho lavo others more or loss injured. Rands, who Avas terribly injured, must have died instantly. His forehead bore the marks of a horse's shoe, shoAving that ono of the animals must have kicked either in the descent or after they reached tho bottom. The body Ava« subsequently taken to the police station at tlio Spit, whither it was removed by order of Sergeant Burtenshaw to the Commercial Hotel, AA'hero an inquest Avas to bo held at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
