BOAT ACCIDENT.—MAN DROWNED.

CiIEiSTCiiURCir, This day. Yesterday afternoon Hugh Minnis, the carpenter of the Doric, was drowned in Lyttelton harbor. He -was one of a number of the crew of the steamer Avho were cruising round the harbor in one of the ship's boats. From some cause the boat turned over near the reef, and Minnis, who essaj'ed to swim ashore, was drowned. The boat was under sail at the time, and was seen from the shoro to go over. Help was not long in reaching the scene. The men who were clinging to the boat were rescued. The body has not yet been recovered.
