Duxkmn, This day
A couple of juvenile Jack Shepherds, named John Scott and Henry Popplrton, who were recently committed to tho Industrial School, made their escape from tho
institution on Thursday last and were not •iptured till Saturday, when they had got as far as Pahnerston. They state that they left the school about 6 o'clock in the morning and on getting to North-east Vulley took two horses out of Mr Forgusson's paddock near the Lower Junction Hotel, and rode them along the main road. After passing Waitaki they took a saddle and bridle from a stable and went on to Evensdale, where they stopped for the night. On the next morning a hawker who also stayed there, and who had a horse and cart, offered to buy one of the horses they had for £3, and they asked the local blacksmith to draw out a receipt, but after makinsr inquiries he declined to do so, and they parted with the horse to the hawker for'ten shillings. They then left for "Waikouaiti, both riding the same horse, and took a pair of ducks from Kilmog, the property of Mr Robt. Francis, and sold them a short distance further on. At Waikouaiti they stayed at the Royal Hotel, and in the morning took the blankets off the bed and went away with them and proceeded to Pahnerston. Some distance north of Waikouaiti they found a horse on the road, which they took with them, and on getting U> Pleasant Valley they took a bridle out of a shed belonging to Mr Kennedy, and put it on the Ihc'ariimnl. When near Palmerston they met a man riding ahorse who gave them os and a very old worthless saddle for the one they had" stolon. The lads wero brought before the City Police Court this morning and remanded. One is over fourteen years old and the other twelve.
