THE DUNEDIN GAOL INQUIRY.

The gaol inquiry was continued yesterday. Mr Caldwell was confined to hisbed and could not appear. Evidence was given by Warders Clark andl Nicholson unfavorable to the gaol management. They stated they had seen prisoners ill-treated by vrarders and made to work when physically unfit. The former witness also gave evidence that a prisoner named Cummock had been harshly treated by the gaoler after having communicated with Captain Hume. Cummock had said to witness, " They arc trying to kill me, I think, because I will not say what I told the Inspector." He had told the prison chaplain about the matter.
