PETITION FOR REMISSION OF DUTY ON CHARITABLE BEQUESTS.

Auckland, This day. The petition to Parliament which has been prepared by the trustees under the late Mr Costley's bequest has been signed and sent to Wellington. The trustees have asked Sir George Grey to present the petition to the House. It prays for a remission of the stamp duties in the case of Mr Costley's bequest, and an amendment of the Stamp Act so that bequests to charitable or public purposes will not be subject to stamp duty.
