EXTENDING THE COAL INDUSTRY.

GiiEYicouTir, This day

Messrs Kennedy Bros., of the Brunncr coal mine, have just concluded a contract with the Noumea Nicklc Company to supply 230 tons of coke and 100 tons of coal monthly. The Pelham, an iron barque, has been purchased, and will be despatched in May with the first supply. Another vessel will he provided by Messrs Stone Bros., Auckland. Previously the Niclde Company obtained all their coke and coal from Newcastle, but having .seen a sample of the Brunnerton coke and coal they arranged a contract with Messrs Kennedy Bros. Hitherto the Brunner coke ovens have been turning out only 100 tons per month, though material enough to manufacture 300 tons per month has been thrown into the river. There are new coke ovens now in course of erection, a cargo of bricks for that purpose having been sent up a few ago.
