NEW PRISON REGULATIONS.

The Gazette contains some important new regulations for the public prisons of the colony under the Prisons' Act, 18S2. Included among them is a system of classification of of prisoners. On entering they arc to be placed in a probation class, and by good conduct they ma.y subsequently raise themselves successfully into third class, second class, first class, and special classes, with a corresponding increase of privileges and gratuities, to be paid to them on leaving the gaol. In future no smoking is to be allowed in tho prisons of tho colony.
