SATURDAY'S BOAT RACE.

The final contest amongst the Ilawkc's Bay Sailing Club's boats for Messrs P. Hayman and Co.'s trophy, took place on Saturday afternoon in the inner harbor, and •was won by Mr J. Holt's Resolute, Avho, having scored a first and two second places during the series, takes the cup. In the morning it blew very hard from the westward, but by 1 o'clock the wit.d had died away, and shortly after came up freshly from the south-east, but unfortunately fell again before the boats started. Only the three principal scorers competed, namely, the Revenge, Wave Queen, and Resolute. They effected a good start, with a very light southerly breeze, and kept well together throughout the course. The wind, however, being very puffy, no particular sailing qualies were displayed, and each boat dining the race had a turn at both first and last places, the Wave Queen eventually passing the goal at about 5 o'clock, tbe Resolute arriving forty-five seconds afterwards, and the Revenge sixty-five seconds later. The Resolute, ou her time allowance, however, claims first place. We are pleased at the result of this match, for Mr Holt, besides being the builder of the Resolute, has pn several 2'i'uvious occasions, to use a (jliuig expression, had "hardluck."
